Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 20, 2026

RifleSense, a product of Walnut Forge Ltd. Co. d/b/a RifleSense, a Kentucky limited liability company ("RifleSense", "we", "us"), makes an iOS app for precision-rifle shooters. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We built RifleSense to be private by default: your personal shooting data lives on your device, and contributing anything to the community is opt-in.

The short version

  • Your rifles, sessions, loads, photos, and stats are stored on your device and, if you enable it, backed up to your own iCloud account. We cannot read that data.
  • You do not need an account to use the personal app.
  • Photos you capture are processed on your device. Location and other metadata are stripped before any image is used.
  • We only receive data you deliberately send us: a founding-member application, a support email, or, in the future, opt-in, anonymized contributions to community data.
  • We do not sell your data.

What we collect

On your device (we do not receive this). Rifle profiles, range sessions, strings, chronograph and environmental readings, DOPE, handloads, inventory, target photos, and computed statistics. This is stored locally using the app's on-device database and, if you turn on backup, synced through your personal iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit private database). We have no access to your iCloud data.

Photos and camera. When you photograph a target, a Kestrel, a chronograph, or a DOPE card, the image is processed on your device to read the data. Before any image is stored or used, identifying metadata such as GPS location is removed.

Founding-member application (website). If you apply to the Founding 50, we collect the information you submit: your email, name, shooting discipline, what you shoot, and anything you choose to tell us. We use it solely to evaluate your application and to contact you about the beta. Form submissions are handled by our website host's form service (Netlify).

Support. If you email support@riflesense.com, we receive your message and basic app and device details you choose to include (app version, iOS version) to help us help you.

Website analytics. Our website uses privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (Plausible) that count visits without tracking individuals or building advertising profiles. No personal information is collected for analytics.

Future community features (opt-in). When community features launch, contributing your session data will be explicit and optional. Contributed data is anonymized before it leaves your device and is aggregated with others; it is one-way and cannot be tied back to you. Community features will require an account (provided through WorkOS) and, for paid tiers, a subscription processed by Apple through RevenueCat. We never receive your full payment card details; Apple handles billing.

How we use information

  • To provide and improve the app and the website.
  • To evaluate founding-member applications and communicate with applicants and beta users.
  • To respond to support requests.
  • To build anonymized, aggregated community insights, only from data you opt in to contribute.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your shooting data for advertising.

Sharing

We share information only with service providers that help us operate, under contract: our website/form host (Netlify), analytics (Plausible), and, for future community and billing features, WorkOS (authentication) and RevenueCat/Apple (subscriptions). We may disclose information if required by law. We do not share your on-device shooting data, because we do not have it.

Your choices and rights

  • Use the app fully without an account.
  • Turn iCloud backup on or off in your device settings.
  • Keep all contribution off; community contribution is opt-in.
  • Ask us to access or delete the limited data we hold about you (your application or support correspondence) by emailing support@riflesense.com.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example under GDPR or the CCPA). Contact us to exercise them.

Data retention

We keep founding-application and support data only as long as needed for those purposes, then delete it. On-device and iCloud data is controlled by you and removed when you delete it or uninstall the app.

Children

RifleSense is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 17.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect the limited data we hold. On-device data is protected by your device's encryption and your iCloud account's protections.

Changes

We will update this policy as the app evolves, especially when community features launch. We will post the new effective date here and, for material changes, notify users in-app or by email where appropriate.
